With all the additions to the "Falling Sky" series this week I didn't know where to start. So I had the bright idea of starting at the top of the list . Original huh?
For starters, I loved this kids attitude throughout the first part of the story. The totaly oblivious perception of life is just so perfectly teenagerish (like that word?).
The ending could have held so much more emotion I think, but it is difficult to build that with such a short word count. I know for mine I was having a very hard time containing what I wanted in the now traditional Flash Fiction size. Still, I went over 1500 words i think .
Overall, a fine addition to the series, man.

Well, when you get to mine? it'll be very much over 1500 words!
Just trying to steer away from what i usually do..since you guys always say they're a lil' short.

I agree with MW.
I think you started out great. The ignorance and bliss of everyday life, even expecting heroes to solve any event that may rear its ugly head. I think you just had to much going on after that. Too much in the short format it was betrayed. Something I have had problems with. The emotion was lost in the brevity.

Don't fret about it. Flash fiction is not easy to write. Inherently there is a lot of "given" information that is expected from the readers. Like my Pieces of Eight pretty much require knowing all my former stories, plus a couple others from other writers. Without that knowledge I am sure my Pieces lose impact.
I am even considering adding that to my cover page so those not familair with it will be forewarned.

sorry 'bout comin' here again without providing with my point of view on this subject, but... WHEN THE HELL ARE YOU GUYS GONNA READ MY FREAKIN' STORY!!!
And now, with the review..
I thought the story was cool, though a bit rushed, the way mike and his father showed their regret on their recent losses didn't quite show except when mike's dad lets out one single tear. Still pretty cool
