Observing City of Ebays market conditions I wave witnessed some interesting price fluctuations and have some working theories.

One is it seems the lack of a comma may be artificially inflating the price of an item. It also seems the price history is the cause. For example:

I see a history on a piece of salvage like this:

100
100
1000
250
150

I bid 100... nothing. 200... nothing. 250... nothing. I then increment the price and alas it sells at 1,000 influence. I have even checked this agianst 100,000s.

It seems in some cases people are looking at the highest price listed and posting that. I would argue the 1000 listed was a extra zero error which then inflates the price. That really sucks especially for what is suppose to be common salvage. Also I think it proves commas are needed. That could count down the errors.

Then, I logged on with RIP. I went to buy an uncommon item that had a history of 1000 and sure enough it sold at 1000. There were at least a thousand items up for bid. Norman, being the co-founder of Out Source Inc., decided to try to manipulate the market. Since no one had open bids on the item he decided to "make" a demand on an item to buy low and then resell high.

When I want to quick sell a piece, especially one with many open bids on it i usually bid 1 infl. It sells at the highest asking price. Sweet. I am sure I am not the only one to think that way. So RIP puts in over 80 bids on the uncommon item for 1 infl. The goal is people look at the fake demand and the history of 1000 and decide to put in 1 infl. to sell to the highest bidder. Obviously, it sells for 1000 at the least, but maybe people are selling it for even more.

Well as of Saturday RIP bought 15 items for 1 infl. Now he re-posted the items back at 1000. Basically, not counting fees, its turning 15 infl into 15,000.

I am thinking that I need to re-list it for for a lower cost becuase I would want to make sure my cheap buys actually sell, like 750 or even 500. Anything over 1 infl. is profit, minus fees of course.

Ironically, when I checked the history it was no longer th smooth 1000 ssale price. it was scattered from 1 to 5000. For a low level character to do this lets the market work for you while you go through missions, although slowly. Any low level toons score a rare piece of salvage they're pretty much set for SOs ar 25. I have yet to not see a rare piece of savale sell for less them 1 mil.

Happy Trading.

Very Happy

See, now that's the reason I stick to fighting and not marketing. I read this post twice and I am just now starting to grasp what you're saying. Its the numbers. Unless they are floating up over my targets head in bright orange, i just don't get them. Rolling Eyes

Oh yah I realize I forgot to explain the catch. See even I got lost in my own words. Rolling Eyes

Since RIP posted say 80 bids for 1 infl those 80 bids stay open.

Someone logs in and goes to sell that piece. They see 80 bids still open and the previous selling prices at 1000. They want to make the most money quickly expect a quick sell. They sell for 1 infl and bam it sells for... 1 infl.

RIP made the item look like it was in more demand. Those looking for the quick sell near 1000, anything over 1 inf. sell for the minimum possible. RIP takes those buys and reposts them for a higher price say 999. Since lowest seller always sells to the highest bidder all of RIP's newly acquired items make a 999 profit before fees.

This assumes normal people list their price at the average price to maximize their amount of their sale. I usually use price history to set my price to a fair market value.

So if history shows 1000 inf. each all others list at 1000 inf. RIP lists at 999 to ensure anybody buying at 1000 goes to him. Remember the highest bidder goes to the lowest price. My 999 always beat 1000 so he always sells.

Of course, it is possible some of, if not all of, his 1 inf. bids came from people just dumping the marget to make a sale, especially for badges.

Either way, he is buys at the lowest, and reposting at slightly lower then the going price. If there are over 1,000 pieces of salvage for sale I need to ensure mine sell. I have to post lower then the average price to make sales.

Damn RIP is becoming a commodity trader. Although its not true commodity but the idea is the same. Wonder if its possible to corner the market on an item. Maybe I should try with RIP.

Hmm... your right this is damn confusing. Confused

I'm with MW on this one...I feel like the Geico caveman going ".......what!!??"

my real thought on this is that people must really be crack addicted to this. Who would go out of their way to sell something for 1 infl. ?? Or, honestly once you get into even the 20 lvls, 1000?

There are a couple of things I've sold, all of which I priced at around 75,000 or above. One recipe went for 230k. That's doable.

1? 1000? I'm much quicker with the delete key, but then I'm impatient.

This easy an easy answer.

The Market takes the highest bid and rewards it to the lowest seller.

I have dumped rare salvage for 1 inf. and walked away with millions.

PH wants to buy Rocket Boots. He checks WWs and sees two others are also bidding on them. He really wants them and the average sale price is 5 million. There are none currently for sale but he really wants the boots. He puts in a bid for 6 mil.

MW was the other buyer. He too wanted the boots too, but more so. He bid 7 mil

Voltech decides he to will acquire the boots becuase he doesn't want PH starting a fashion trend without him. He barely has enough for the avereage so he bids 5 mil.

Tropic logs on and sees three people bidding for the Boots and decides he too will own a pair. He is stingy though and doesnt think they are worth the average selling price. He bids 1 mil.

I just found the Boot recipe and check WW. Four people are bidding on boots. I see the avg is 5 mil. I could post 5 Mil and MW gets the sale. He was willing to spend the most money.

Spectreblade also gets the recipe and he too decides to sell. He see's three bids out now (MW jsut bought them.) He also notices the last pair sold sold for 7 mil. Ooo, people must want these. He decides to bid 7 mil. He deserves the best posssible price. Nobody was willing to spend that much so it sits there. Rocket Boots now show 3 Bidders and 1 For Sale.

TG logs on just acquiring the recipe also. She was going to try them out but notices the price they are going for. With all the clothes she could buy for the 5 mil average she decides to sell. She doesn't wan to wait around so she bids 1 inf.

Bam PH now gets TG boots for 6 mil and TG is happy with the sell.

The whole process is similar or kinda like The Price is Right in that if someone overbids, and you believe it who can Bid $1 and advance to the stage.

Spectreblade sees another pair of boots sell for 6 mil. He quickly recovers his recipe and in that process loses 10% of his asking price 70,000 inf. this is WWs cost for posting the item. He re-lists for 1 inf to make a quick sale. WWs still cahrges a minimum fee, 5 inf. I think, and bammo he sells his recipe for 5 Mil to Voltech.

Tropic now sees the last three sales at 7 mil, 6 mil, and 5 mil, and decides to just burn WWs down. Twisted Evil

Selling for 1 influence is basically saying give me what the highest amount is so I can get rid of it. And there are dangers involved with that. Which is kind of what RIP is doing making creating fake demand. He is using a n uncommon salvage though and nobody had an outstanding bids.
He created the outstanding bids himself. Any 1 inf. selling drops and he nets them up to re-list the item at just below the average selling price.

Any Questions?

i see what your talking about.... but for me it just be easier to do a mish and get like 80,000 inf solo *shrugs* its not cause im shying from the market... ive made bokos (a term that means many) from it

the thing thats gonna happen though is people are gonna figure this out.... then instead of selling for say 1inf.... theyll sell for say 2inf... and so forth so then it will basically become pointless... *shrugs* i guess for me itd just be better for me to go out and beat guys up Twisted Evil

Well Norman is done with manipulating Ensorcelled Weapon. He took 15 infl and turned it into over 70,000 with only just over 20 units.

Wahoo!

Myth walks up to RIP and hands him the key to his vault.
"Here, I'll keep puting stuff in. You keep the stuff selling."

<Myth spends the next few years trying to figure out why he is broke.>

<Time is briefly interrupted when Myth is arrested by Freedom Corps when many of Azuria's items in her Vault end up his. He pleads innocent, but only until the evidence again goes missing does the Freedom Corps drop the charges.>

<Myth notices Dogs of War have increased their membership greatly in his absence, but they all look like Thugs to him.>

Wow have our standards fallen, he thinks to himself.

<Another day he wakes up and notices the revolving door put into his vault and it being guarded by many weapon wielding women. He likes the view and realizes his chances for getting a date have improved.>

<Later still, after many rejections, he finds he has been locked out of his base.>

Hmm... maybe I shouldn't have put RIP in charge of my vault.

Laughing Laughing Laughing

Hmmmmm....

<Myth calls his brother, who hasn't spoken to him since he was dumb enough to get locked up, and has him get the rest of the Original DoW together>

<Haven is resistant (didn't take Myth's time in the slammer well and there were all those sleezy bad boy thugs around to console her)>

<Anarchy puts the woman guarding the rotating door in hand cuffs before they can even see what he is doing...> Thats all I will say about that but suffise it to say, Anarchy is going to be otherwise occupied for a while.

<They storm the base by force and evict all the thugs but don't bother to change the revolving door. They just installed a new fire extinguisher system and called it a day> Wink
