I'm sort of new around here. You know that creepy guy lurking in the back for the last few months? That wasn't me, but I can tell you what he smelled like.
I've been in game since May of 2004. A friend talked me into it and then abandoned it a few months after I was hooked.
I'm one of the leaders of the Safe Harbor Hero group on Champion and The Maelstrom on the villain side. But i also have characters on Freedom and Liberty. 50 or so total, and most of them have interconnected back stories plotted out on a big spreadsheet. It's really slow where I work and no one cares if I bring in my laptop to work on personal stuff during the 4-5 hours of downtime I get on average per night.
Writing out some of those stories is pretty new for me. A previous project was a website geared for new players which can be found at coh-tog.home.comcast.net, or there should be a button on here someplace. It's a very in depth guide of roughly 250 pages that covers everything between the loading screen and about level 20, though there are some gaps in places.
I'm in my late 30s, and personality wise, I'm a nerd, with geekish leanings, and a hint of dork. See below for definitions. Another board where I spend a lot of time is called BAUT and deals mainly with science and astronomy.
Definitions:
A nerd can figure out how long the Enterprise, traveling at warp 7.3 will take to go from Rigel to Antares to Deneb.
A geek will think he can use that information to pick up a girl in a bar.
A dork knows he can't get a girl with it but has nothing else to talk about so he hangs around just in case she asks.
The nerd in me uses different forums to get ideas and to avoid making huge, silly errors when I write, and because I'm always up for learning something new.
The dork in me would like to mention that I'm also willing to help out anyone with questions for stories by answering any questions others may have that I might know.
Subjects there include:
Astronomy (not astrology--there IS a difference)
Photography (with a real camera with film and manual settings and stuff)
Martial arts (in depth study of 4 styles, a superficial study of 4 more, and book research on an additional 50 for a realistically based combat system for an RPG. Also at least familiar with most weapons)
Guns (Been shooting since I was 5, reloading since I was 7 or so)
Morbid CSI type stuff about poisons and cause of death and stuff (Main interest is mystery writing)
General sciencey stuff (though a bit math impaired)
And that's about it.

Welcome aboard. It's always good to see new blood here.
Sounds like you fit right in here with your background.

WELCOME!!! Now that I am reasonably sure you might apreciate it, I just might read and review your story .

PERFECT! I have been trying to explain just that to my wife for years now! She keeps telling me that I'm a nerd, and I keep having to explain that the judicial application of leather underwear to any problem makes me a geek.
Hey, for anyone here who hasn't yet read this guy's story about the beater... go read it!

Heh, the only reference for fighting I have is the boxing I've done and the Krav maga I studied. (or as I like to call it "the School of Dirty Fighting"! Every move starts with 'hit/kick to the groin' and ends with 'hit/kick to the groin'!)
So I gets superheroically creative! If you've ever read any of the Robert B. Parker 'Spenser' novels he does a really good job with the fight scenes. I think he had an 8 page fight in one of em!

Ah yes!! We had a class one day on how to keep your attackers knife in the correct position so they would stab themselves if you leaned into them a bit.
...good times...
